Like all recording studios, big and small, Hairball Audio struggles with the cost of recording equipment. Classic gear tends to be well built and sound great however, depleting stock and demand have pushed retro gear prices beyond the reach of most small studios and independent record producers.
Plug-ins and low cost imports provide a solution, but at what cost? While we certainly LOVE our plug-ins and mics made overseas, we have found low quality control can making purchasing affordable gear risky and time consuming. In addition, there is no substitute for turning the knob on a real LA2A or pushing a ratio selector on an 1176!
Within these pages you will find information and links on how to build classic gear. Our hope is that this info will give you the famework to create affordable and authentic recreations of the equipment you know and love.
