Born out of heartache and insecurity Transarctic is the project of Canadian born singer/songwriter Mike Mabie. Transplanted to Seattle, Transarctic borrows from a diverse collection of influences and genres. Mabie started as an experimental musician and his early post-rock influences often appear juxtaposed with Transarctic’s pop sensibilities. Fumbling through a variety of instruments, Mabie’s clumsy and ambitious songwriting is fraught with sincerity and sentiment.
Broken Songs is Transarctic’s debuted E.P. and features six delicately written songs. Moments of lush guitar and keyboard textures often give way to quiet choirs and intimate harmony rich vocals. Broken Songs features local artists Cassady Laton (Dept of Energy) on drums and Wolf Carr (Wesafari, I am the Internet) on bass. Beautifully recorded and mixed by Seattle producer Mike Kutchman (who also plays bass on two tracks), Broken Songs is a chronicle of failure, sadness and redemption.
