Hakko irons have long been a favorite around our shop and the FX-888D is no exception. The FW-888D is an excellent variable control iron with digital readout. We personally like 650F for lead solder and 750F for lead-free. Most irons come standard with a conical tip which is not appropriate for thru-hole work, instead, we've included a chisel tip which is more appropriate for DIY thru-hole PCB soldering.
We've also included a set of CHP170 Hakko cutters. We LOVE these cutters and they are the only ones we use around the shop for lead trimming. We've used dozens of other cutters and these ones are the only ones that stay sharp over time.
The Hakko FX-888 is an inexpensive yet durable temperature adjustable soldering station that provides more power and takes up less bench space than its predecessor (Hakko 936). The added power of the FX-888 provides up to a 30% increased thermal performance and faster thermal recovery time. Today, workbench space is at a premium, and the FX-888 uses approximately 35% less surface area compared to the Hakko 936.
